Joanna Pradela

Joanna Pradela is a white, Jewish American woman. Her conception of justice and oppression was shaped early in her life by the lived-experience of her grandparents’ generation through the Holocaust. She has worked throughout her career in organisations that re-centre knowledge and agency of marginalised or excluded communities—including with Indigenous People’s organisation in the United States, in social justice philanthropy with Hispanic Americans, and in movement building organisations throughout the Asia and Pacific regions. In her current role at IWDA she leads and has strategic oversight of IWDA’s research, policy, and advocacy work; IWDA’s feminist movement strengthening, and; IWDA’s flagship program to redefine how poverty is understood and measured, Equality Insights. She has previously held senior roles at ACFID and the Australian Reproductive Health Alliance. Her areas of expertise include: government engagement; humanitarian response coordination and policy; sexual and reproductive health and rights; gender equality; civil society,and movement strengthening, and; gender data. In 2018 she was a finalist in the Australian Women’s Weekly Women of the Future and she is currently one of the convenors of the Australian Feminist Foreign Policy Coalition.
