Dr. Kim Carter-Tillman is America’s Trusted AI Guide — a nationally recognized transformational leader and social entrepreneur with more than two decades of experience giving women real access to capital, opportunity, and information. Her work follows one throughline: when women aren’t given a seat at the table, she builds a new table — and opens the doors so women can walk into the rooms and spaces where their value is seen and heard.

In 2002, she founded Time for Change Foundation, which has grown into a family of institutions rather than a single program. Through the BBOP Center, she built economic empowerment for women — a state-of-the-art hub built to help women start, build, and scale their businesses, and to increase their access to capital as they work to expand their visions. That foundation grew into workforce training in construction and living-wage trades, and, most recently, into The Kinetic AI Hub, where she focuses on AI literacy and readiness for underserved communities. Housing led to capital. Capital led to workforce. Workforce has now led to AI — the same conviction, applied to the next closed door, in communities she remains committed to walking alongside on the path to prosperity.

Through CHAMP, her independent practice, Dr. Carter-Tillman advises funders and leaders on the journey from AI confusion to AI confidence — and from AI translation to AI integration. She built her name translating a fast-moving, jargon-heavy field into something usable, so leaders, especially women leaders, can make sound decisions instead of sitting out the conversations shaping the next decade of opportunity.

Her central conviction: investing in women is inseparable from investing in the tools that amplify their reach and their decision-making power. Capital opens a door; voice and technology determine what happens once a woman walks through it. When women hold that infrastructure — financial and technological — the impact compounds, for them and for the families counting on them.

That belief is backed by a record: more than 6,500 women, children, and families served by Time for Change Foundation, including 332 children reunified with their mothers from foster care.

Her impact has been recognized with more than 250 awards and honors, including Nexstar’s National Remarkable Woman of the Year and a Top 10 CNN Heroes honor. Her story reached a global audience through the film Tell It Like a Woman, in which Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award winner Jennifer Hudson portrays Dr. Carter-Tillman’s life, produced and directed by Taraji P. Henson.

Her question for every funder, builder, and leader in the AI conversation is simple: who should be building AI for underserved communities? Her answer: we should — with our own input, in the room — not as the subject of someone else’s study, and not as a market to be sold to.
