Speaker

Alice Aguilar, she/they, is Executive Director of Progressive Technology Project (PTP), a non-profit social justice movement technology organization with an organizing model to help movement organizations transition off of Big Tech and use people-controlled technology. PTP’s mission is to strengthen grassroots organizing groups to achieve their goals through the strategic use of technology while helping groups develop a critical and political analysis for all their technology decisions. PTP offers an open-source database, Powerbase, designed and developed with community organizers, and hosted on servers we own and control. As part of our work to collectively build a movement technology infrastructure and divesting from Big Tech, we are a co-coordinator of the Rise Against Big Tech coalition and global campaign.

Alice serves on the Board of Directors of May First Movement Technology—PTP’s sister and ally organization, and is currently a Movement Advisor for Funders for Justice.

For over 30 years, Alice’s life’s work is grounded in supporting the rights of Indigenous Peoples and to fight for Environmental Justice and Reproductive Justice. Alice is currently organizing resistance to manipulative Big Tech and works to lead the fight against racism and sexism in technology; bringing Women, Queer and Trans People of Color into movement technology, and winning respect for the People of Color already doing technology work within social justice movements.
